Worship & Volunteer Ministries

ECOTA offers many ministry opportunities for people of every age, interest, and experience level. Below is a list of some of the ways you can receive ministry or actively participate in it.

Community & World Ministries

ECOTA offers us many ways to share our blessings with others.

In Matthew 25-40, Jesus tells us that whatever we do for the humblest and neediest in the world, we do for him. We believe that we serve God by serving others who are in need. At ECOTA, we have many ministries that offer you the opportunity to share your time and talents to assist other people who are facing challenges times.

Outreach Ministries

Help locally. Help globally.

The Outreach Ministry Team at Atonement serves as the hands and feet of Christ in the surrounding community. Jesus calls us to serve each other in his commandment to “love one another, as I have loved you.”  There are many ways to become involved both as members of this team, and also by volunteering for individual initiatives throughout the year:  stocking the Little Free Food Pantry, staffing the Farmer’s Market, donating to the Angel Tree at Christmas time, and so much more. If you have an idea for our Outreach Team, please let our Rector know.

  • Little Free Food Pantry

We have a long history of supporting the Westfield Food Pantry.  Since the pandemic began, we have been collecting food for our own satellite pantry—a little red shed just outside our side door.  Food in our "Little Free Food Pantry" is available to the public at anytime!  Just walk up or drive up and take what you need.

  • Little Free Library

Located near our playground, our Little Free Library offers books for children and adults.  The books are free. Take what you would like to read!

  • Westfield Farmer's Market

"The mission of the Westfield Farmer's Market is to provide affordable, healthy food to the community and to support local agriculture.”  Each summer ECOTA hosts the Westfield Farmer’s Market and supports their mission to provide locally grown agricultural products and hand-made crafts in a festive community atmosphere. They accept SNAP/HIP/EBT and credit cards during the market. For more information, visit the website of the Westfield Farmer’s Market.

  • Our Community Table: Westfield Soup Kitchen

Supporting those experiencing food insecurity in our community is in the very DNA of the Episcopal Church of the Atonement. We serve at the Westfield Soup Kitchen each 4th Sunday of the month. You may help by preparing food, delivering it to the Kitchen, and serving. Contact the church office for more information, and Ray Brown will get back to you with details about how you can help.

  • Prayer Shawl
    Knitting Group

Love is woven in every stitch when our Knitting Group gathers to knit and crochet prayer shawls to donate to Baystate Noble Hospital and other items to help warm the hearts (and hands and heads). Don't know how to knit? That's OK! We have all the necessary supplies and our supportive members are happy to teach you. Contact the church office for more information and Donna Tatlock Calkins will get back to you!

  • Good News Garden

Our Good New Garden brings people together to grow food and herbs to share with others through our Little Food Pantry and with other food-support organizations in the community. Working in the garden not only produces delicious and nutritious produce for people—it is also a great way to get some fresh air, make new friends, and build community!

The playground beside our church is great fun for the kids in our congregation, and it has also become a gathering spot for neighborhood families. We even find a few teens and adults like to visit to let their playful side have some fun!

  • Kids' Night Out

Kids’ Night Out (KNO) is a new ministry aimed at providing a safe place for children to have a night out—and parents get a night out too! Attendees do not have to be members of the church. We provide a meal, arts and crafts, storytelling, activities, games, and music. The ages run from 3 – 12.  We currently host 16-20 children every other month. There is no cost to the families. This past year we were awarded a Ministry Grant to fund KNO!

  • Strawberry Festival

The Strawberry Festival is a long-time ECOTA outreach event that has taken several iterations in its nearly 50-year history. Its purpose is to provide funding for a charity each year. After a pause during COVIDtide, the Strawberry Festival returned in the summer of 2023, raising $6,000 for scholarships for secondary education for members of the Westfield Boys and Girls Club!
