Tenebrae is Latin for “shadows,” and it is an ancient Christian service in which increasing shadows recall the somber events of Holy Week. During the Tenebrae service, candles are extinguished one by one as scripture and music tell the story of Jesus’s final days from the Last Supper and to his burial.
